Here’s the idea behind the Throwdown. I love the exchange that social media facilitates and that people from all walks of life use social media to make their case. Whether it’s blogs, Twitter, podcasts, YouTube, yada yada — it’s all good.
For me, there is still one more element of social media we can use, something that is more symmetric. Sure, Twitter comes close, but I wanted more. So in a conversation with my colleague Michael Keliher, we came up with Social Media Throwdown: a live audio show on Blog Talk Radio that will also be published as a podcast on this site.
Each show focuses on a single topic, with lively, articulate guests with opposing points of view and a passion to share them. Of course, what would a throwdown be without audience participation? We invite callers, so just mark your calendar to listen to the live broadcast on Blog Talk Radio.
Social Media Throwdown is sponsored by Provident Partners, a social media and PR consulting agency, and just about anyone else that wants to be part of the animated conversation.
Add your comments to this page about topics you would like to hear on the Throwdown, or dial in your comments to 206-600-6887.
Thanks for reading and listening.

Albert,
fun idea. I am sure it will grow as more and more people take differing sides of the direction of social media. Hopefully someone will pay for the great ad space.
Doug, thanks for the comment. Yes we are trying to get a variety of opinions on this show as we tackle a new topic every month. We are also going to reach out to people that are not active on social media because they bring significant ideas to the table that social media advocates must address.
For example, I’m all for transparency, but what exactly does that mean? In government, even with Obama’s crack social media team, do you think for one minute there are not going to be leaks to the media? In this age of transparency is there not going to be officials talking on background and off-the-record?
These are the kind of issues we’ll address on social media throwdown
Albert, I hope you tackle that topic soon- I’d be really interested to hear the throwdown on that one.
